MSc - Sport and Exercise Medicine

Brief description:
This MSc program has be designed for students with a MBChB degree (or equivalent) who are interested in pursuing a  Master in Science degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine. The MSc program exists of course work (67 %) and research assignment (33%).  Lectures for the course work will be given 3 times per year, during 1 week visits to the Tygerberg Campus of Stellenbosch University.  This structure allows students living outside of the Cape Town / Stellenbosch region and  international students to enroll for this MSc course.

Requirements:       MBChB degree or a equivilent qualification

Credits:                     180 credits
Duration:                  2-4 years

Science in Sport and Exercise Medicine                                                                30 credits
          Contact time:                                  36.0 hours
          Self study :                                     241.5 hours
          Prac. workplace learning:         22.5 hours


Exercise Related Injuries                                                                                                45 credits
          Contact time:                                  54.0 hours
          Self study :                                     362.2 hours
          Prac. workplace learning:         33.8 hours


Sport and Exercise Medicine in Special Populations                                      15 credits
          Contact time:                                  18.0 hours
          Self study :                                     120.7 hours
          Prac. workplace learning:         11.3 hours


General Sport and Exercise Medicine                                                                     30 credits
          Contact time:                                  36.0 hours
          Self study :                                     241.5 hours
          Prac. workplace learning:         22.5 hours


Research assignment                                                                                                        60 credits
          Research and supervision:     600.0 hours

MSc - Exercise Medicine

Brief description:
A MSc program for students with a interest in the field of Exercise Medicine.
This MSc course is 100% research driven and does not contain any compulsory course work.

Requirements:       to be determined - will cater for clinicians and non-clinicians

Duration:                  2-3 years
